The Innate Life Review and Demo

I've been mentioning The Innate Life in various posts here, on youtube and instagram and have been wanting to give this great brand their own, detailed review. That time has finally arrived! Read on for my thoughts about several products from The Innate Life, a cruelty free, all natural and organic hair care company from Canada!

Here is some information about the brand from their site:
"The Innate Life has the highest quality products with all-natural ingredients. They're extremely potent and best of all, they ACTUALLY work. You can sit back and rest assured that we have done our homework and used only the cleanest ingredients. We are a brand that you can trust.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT It’s safe to say we’re obsessed with herbs and oils, including as many as we possibly can in each of our formulations. Conventional beauty products pride themselves on having 1-2 key ingredients, we use dozens. We want to harness all that nature has to offer in each product, resulting in an extremely concentrated product."

I've been using these products for quite a few months, some a bit longer than others, but all enough to get a great feel for. The only thing I can't really comment on yet is longevity use of the shampoo and conditioner.

KEY INGREDIENTS
The brand features so many fantastic extracts and herbs, including a lot from Ayurveda. For easy reference, here are some of the frequently used ones and why they are so great:
(taken from theinnatelife.com)

  • Slippery Elm Bark and Marshmallow Root contains mucilage properties that works as an all-natural detangler. They work to revives dry hair due to their moisturizing properties.
  • Horsetail contains a very high content of silica, which is a key enzyme in collagen growth. The collagen protein is found in skin, bones, and you guessed it – hair. The silica content in horsetail helps strengthen weak and damaged hair, restoring its vitality with consistent use.
  • Bhringaraj is a star Ayurveda herb that prevents hair fall, premature greying, strengthens the hair roots, conditions the hair well, prevents split ends and stimulates hair growth - in short everything that is needed for a healthy hair.
  • Amla contains 20x more vitamin C than an orange and is a powerful antioxidant. Due to its essential fatty acids, Amla strengthens hair follicles and stimulates hair growth. It is also a fantastic remedy for dry, flaky and itchy scalp as it has the ability to penetrate the scalp deeply to nourish it.
  • Brahmi is an Ayurvedic herb that has a number of herbal powers that are beneficial to both the hair and scalp. We use Brahmi in our products as a way to treat and prevent split ends and breakage. This herb coats the hair follicles with a layer of protection to help your hair develop volume and length overtime.

Scalp Treatment
Them: "Hair growth starts at the root. The Scalp Treatment is the ultimate product for hair growth because it nourishes and stimulates the scalp. It’s packed with natural goodness that will benefit your scalp and hair in ways you never thought possible! Used a couple times a week, The Dry/Problematic Scalp Treatment will soothe dry scalp and rid it of any pesky flakes. It’s relaxing herbal scent makes it an essential part of any self-care day.
Problematic Scalp Treatment is best for individuals with scalp-related issues such as dry, dandruff or flaky scalp."

Me: Some key ingredients include Unrefined Shea Butter, Neem Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Argan Oil and Castor Oil. There are two versions of this: for normal scalp and problematic scalp. I use the one for problematic scalp since my scalp can be prone to dryness and feeling a bit tight sometimes. I've already used a whole jar of this and was very happy how long lasting a jar is. I use this once a week on my scalp while using the Herbal Hair Mask on my lengths as a Pre-Poo. I apply it in small sections on my scalp from front to back and then gently use the pads of my fingers to massage it in for a few minutes. Please do NOT use your nails when massaging your scalp!! This does have a strong herbal smell and originally I wasn't leaving it on overnight, but I trained myself to wear it overnight before washing to really get the maximum effects. I believe this one of the reasons I am seeing hair regrowth pop up all over after the excessive thinning I endured due to toxic Devacurl products months ago. I also notice since having this in my routine, I don't shed as much as I was, which is amazing. This is definitely my favorite product by the brand and anyone with a scalp who wants healthy hair should give it a try.

Herbal Hair Mask
Them: "Dry and damaged hair rejoice! The Herbal Hair Mask is the answer to your prayers. This intensive once-a-week hair mask has the power to naturally transform hair into a silky dream. Formulated with over 15 plant-based botanicals, The Herbal Hair Mask keeps hair soft, silky, and shiny. Natural detanglers leave strands tangle-free and manageable. This Mask also reverses damage caused by heat tools and hair dyes. For sad-looking locks, The Herbal Mask is sure to cheer them up!"

Me: Some key ingredients include Slippery Elm Bark, Marshmallow Root, Argan Oil, Horsetail and Brahmi. I am also on my second bottle of this mask and really like it. I appreciate that this, the shampoo and conditioner are all in black bottles so light doesn't effect the potency of all the wonderful herbs and extracts inside. This mask smells so good, fruity and delicious. I LOVE that this is a mask made to be used on dry hair, that makes it so easy. As mentioned with the scalp treatment, I like to leave this on once a week overnight before washing. My hair is so dry and damaged right now, it does drink up quite a bit, but not a ridiculous amount. This mask leaves my hair INCREDIBLY soft and more controlled. It has become a favorite "pre-poo" treatment.

Rose Hair Elixir
Them: "The Rose Hair Elixir is the Holy Grail product of hair care. Formulated with over 15 organic oils, this Elixir is potent and serves a number of purposes. It can be used daily or whenever your hair needs a quick pick me up. It can be used on dry hair to nourish split ends, tame frizzy hair, repair damaged hair and add shine. This little bottle does it all! It even works as a heat protectant before styling or on damp hair as a leave-in treatment. If that’s not enough for you, it’s intoxicating rose smell will have you coming back for more."

Me: Key ingredients include Rose Otto Essential Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Rosehip Oil and Black Cumin Seed Oil. This is a lovely oil blend that brings an excellent amount of shine to my hair. The smell is very strong, but it smells like fresh roses, so that's not a bad thing. It is a bit too strong for my husband's sensitive nose, so I have to let it sink in a few minutes so his allergies do not act up.  I use this oil in a few ways including to seal wet hair when styling, to seal the hair mask and leave on overnight and also sometimes to touch up frizz on dry hair.

Herbal Shampoo
Them: "Get a shampoo that can do both: cleanse and provide nutrients to the scalp. The Herbal Shampoo is gentle on cleansing, tough on delivering hair healthy herbs to your strands. Formulated with a blend of over 10 organic herbs, this shampoo has the power to soothe dry, itchy scalp and promote hair growth. Used regularly, The Herbal Shampoo will boost collagen growth, helping strengthen and restore vitality with every use. Bring your locks back to life with a natural shampoo that doesn’t disappoint. And yes, it even lathers. Works great for all hair types. Paraben and sulfate-free."

Me: Key ingredients include Horsetail, Bhringaraj, Amla and Brahmi. I like this shampoo quite a bit. I make a lather in my hands before applying on my scalp and it is easier to distribute that way. This and the conditioner I have not been using quite as long as the above three products. I like that there are so many ingredients inside to promote healthy hair growth, which is my number one hair priority at the moment. It cleans my hair, but my hair doesn't feel super stiff, hay like or all dried out after, which is important. A little goes a long way with this shampoo.

Herbal Conditioner
Them: "The Conditioner that does it all. What if you could detangle, repair damage, and promote hair growth all at the same time? Now you can. The Herbal Conditioner contains a powerful herbal formula to help you achieve your healthiest hair ever. Formulated with over 10 organic herbs, this conditioner’s rich formula works as an excellent moisturizer. Used regularly, The Herbal Conditioner will boost collagen growth, helping strengthen and restore vitality with every use. Works great for all hair types. Available for Thin to Normal or Thick to Curly hair types. Paraben and sulfate-free."

Me: Key ingredients include Slippery Elm Bark, Marshmallow Root, Horsetail, Bhringaraj, Amla and Brahmi. This conditioner has two versions- a thinner one and a thicker one based on your hair. Since my hair is curly, super dry, damaged and frizzy I go with the thicker version. The copy in the description saying that this conditioner can repair damage AND promote hair growth at once completely sold me. I will say, this conditioner is deliciously thick which is great, but that makes it a bit hard to get out of the bottle. I wish it was in a tub instead. Like the mask, my dry, damaged hair just drinks this stuff up! It is left super soft, shiny, silky and more manageable. I've tried this solo, mixed with other masks and even using a little bit as a leave in (since my hair is so dry) and have had success all around.

The Innate Life has two more products I haven't tried. A Leave-In Conditioner Spray and Neroli Hair Primer. I am curious about the leave in as a refresher spray, since most leave in sprays are not enough for my hair. Unfortunately, my husband is allergic to Neroli so I can't try the primer, unless they come out with another one, which would be awesome because it sounds like such a unique product.
